Introduction
Sonce is a mileage tracking app (“Application”) built for self-employed people in the United States. The app records your car trips automatically, helps you classify them as business or personal, and generates mileage reports you can use for tax deductions. To do this, Sonce collects location data and other information described in this policy.
This Privacy Policy describes how Sonce, Inc. (“Sonce”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you use our Application, related services, and any associated websites or support channels (collectively, the “Services”).
The Services are designed, optimized, and exclusively targeted to individuals operating motor vehicles within the United States. Sonce does not intentionally target, offer services to, or monitor the behavior of individuals residing in the European Union, European Economic Area (EEA), or other international jurisdictions.
The Application is intended for individuals aged 18 or older who are legally permitted to drive a car in the US.
Information We Collect
We collect personal information directly from you, automatically from your device, and from third-party service providers.
Account and Identity Information:
Profile data: When you register an account, we collect your email address, first name, last name, and your unique social provider ID.
Onboarding Data: We register your sign-up context, including your country, registration state, IP address, and account status.
Preferences data: We save your settings, such as your self-declared occupation, local timezone, distance unit preferences (e.g., miles or kilometers), and your customized working schedule.
Payment Information: When you make a purchase, your payment data is securely processed directly by Apple via the App Store, and we only retain non-sensitive transaction metadata.
Location and Sensor Trip Data:
Precise location data: We collect precise location data (e.g., latitude, longitude, altitude, and speed) to generate smooth trip paths, including background location tracking to ensure seamless trip capture, which you can control via the Application privacy settings.
Trip metadata: We generate and store your precise trip start time, end time, trip duration, and distance traveled.
Motion and Fitness Data: We use your iOS device’s native accelerometer, gyroscope, and core motion frameworks to automatically detect vehicle motion state, filter out stationary periods, and accurately distinguish driving activity from other activities.
Vehicle and Hardware Integration Identifiers:
To ensure trips are mapped to the correct personal or business vehicle, we collect the following information:
Vehicle details: Model, model year, odometer readings, and custom car names that you assign via the Application.
Hardware Metadata: Wireless unique identifiers from your vehicle’s integrated technology (e.g., Wi-Fi SSID network names, Bluetooth SSID, MAC identifiers, and Apple CarPlay connection payloads).
System Logs and Application Behavior:
Interaction Markers: We collect application interaction logs, performance diagnostics, crash logs, and other interaction activity.
How We Use Your Information
We collect and process your personal information to power the core functionalities of Sonce, enforce security safeguards, comply with regulatory requirements, and for other legitimate purposes. Specifically, we use your information to:
Provide Core Application Features: Create and maintain your account, authenticate identity, and generate your automated driving journals.
Process Location and Motion Analytics: Translate GPS signals and hardware identifiers into structured trips, distance reports, and mileage categorization logs.
Automate Vehicle Syncing: Automatically group trips with the proper vehicle profile.
Deliver Communications: Dispatch trip summaries, weekly and monthly reports, system operational status notifications, and product feature adjustments. You can control these communication channels via the Application configurations.
Technical Safety and Debugging: Investigate application crashes to maintain service reliability.
How We Disclose Your Information
We do not sell or share your personal information. We only share information with a limited set of trusted service providers strictly necessary to operate the Application, provide core features, and comply with legal requirements.
Service providers: We share necessary data elements with cloud infrastructure, authentication, customer support, and analytics vendors (e.g., Auth0, Amplitude, Intercom, and Sentry) strictly to manage your account, track platform stability, and handle support requests.
Mapping and Navigation Partners: We share limited, de-identified route coordinates with Mapbox to generate maps. This information does not contain your name, email, or other direct personal account identifiers.
Legal Compliance and Protection: We may disclose your information if required to do so by US federal or state law, or in response to valid legal requests like a subpoena or court order.
Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Services, maintain user accounts, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and support legitimate business operations. Retention periods may vary depending on the type of information.

When your account is deleted, we will delete or permanently de-identify your personal information within a reasonable timeframe, except where retention is required for legal, security, fraud prevention, or critical operational purposes.
